SUPERSTRUCTURES help navigating both life, in general, and careers, in particular.* Critical “superstructures” include:

- RELATIONSHIPS
Such connections provide context and accountability. They provide validation. They provide “fenestration” (“fresh air”). And they can often act as “Singshot Accelerators”.
I was a “lone wolf” entrepreneur, biomedical scientist with modest success in getting grants and carrying out novel research when an opportunity came to move into administration. I was fortunate to have excellent mentors, but had much ground to be made up to meet all the challenges I would face.
When I became associated with a newly developing cancer center, I felt compelled to join a national Cancer Center Administrators Forum, where I had access to many more “seasoned” leaders for guidance. (Meanwhile, I had written a small treatise, entitled “A Treasury of Touchstones for Personal
Achievement”, attempting to help aspiring sojourners “get RIGHT things done RIGHT and ON TIME.”)
At one Forum conference, a noted, nationally recognized speaker, B. Eugene Griessman, gave a fascinating keynote address on his life-long study of successful people that mirrored some of the “Touchstones” in my book. So, I gave him a copy of the book and told him I’d welcome his feedback. He ended up including one of my favorite “Touchstones” quotations in his next book: “Time Tactics of Successful People” – heading Chapter 1, Page 1!
