I hate to be the one to tell you this, but everything you need to know about life did NOT accrue to you in kindergarten.
And you won’t get it all in high school.
For sure, you won’t pick it up on the street, on a bar stool or in a pool hall.
And the “enlightenment” one might presume to get from drugs will NOT advance well-being.
Life is really pretty simple:
The goal of LIFE is to pile up as much GOOD as possible. Not “goodies”. GOOD.
- It’s not all about what you can get.
- It’s about what you can GIVE.
- It’s about your inclination and capacity to make a positive impact on the world.
- It’s about how much someone can “Count” on you.
And for WHAT? And about how much MORE than they can “count on” you can deliver.
Consider this scenario:
The paper carrier NOT ONLY gets our paper delivered before 6 am [faithfully every day], BUT ALSO wraps it in plastic on rainy days AND places it right beside our door so we don’t have to go wandering all over the neighborhood to find it.
- It’s about your family.
- It’s about your customers at work.
- It’s about the staff you depend on, and who depend on you.
- It’s about your service clubs and those less fortunate.
- It’s not about “thinking about it” or “feeling” like it.
- It’s about getting things DONE!
- Not “some day”. NOW.
“Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can, In all the places you can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, As long as ever you can.”
– John Wesley (1703 – 1791)
